Were those tutorials made after 2.7? Because registrars didn't do collection range before. By the time you have 3 figure planet trade from distant sectors you can have deployed constructed GWs. A core sector hub (as you gain slots to Fortrsses) the capital or next to it, allows diffuse collection, so the routes just carry far flung trade from developing systems. The reason is if nearby planets have starports, they make a route, so trade becomes extremely high near the capital and expensive to protect. This is far more efficient than the string of trade route protection bases which tutorial videos are recommending.

Initially use 1 or 2 Trade Bay, a Hangar Bay for defence/pirate suppression plus the Hyperlane Registrar. They are the same as the corresponding ships without ' B' but have a black camouflage. Can hit only battleships and aircraft carriers. Originally posted by rob.inconformista:In 2.7 the Hyperlane Registrar helps you to build a well protected sector trade hub sooner without advanced base tech. b: yes, cannot hit cruisers, destroyers and submarines. I haven't seen this done in any Let's Plays but it saved me hours of fiddling, fine tuning trade routes in a previous game to reduce concentration, even having to move some bases for trade, rather than defence considerations.
It seems to me Hangar Bays are the over powered thing, a Hyperlane Registrar providing a buff to combat disengagement chance (perhaps negating negative aura effects too) would make sense from lore point of view. I actually allow a little piracy in the empire backwaters, so I can train up my admirals.
It's a poor man's GW trade system without fragile routes. For better or worse, it appears Salvation now plays a crucial role in humanity. Admirals Ziegler, Price and Atherton sent messages of congratulation to Salvation, who seems set to receive additional resources to improve superweapon production. Other naval bases more distant can provide hangar bays. This caused the Thargoid fleets in all three systems to immediately withdraw into hyperspace. If your empire core has enough planets within range, you can eliminate piracy by building trade bays plus Hyperlane Registrar to cover further than the whole sector (7 hops if you maxed it out).
In 2.7 the Hyperlane Registrar helps you to build a well protected sector trade hub sooner without advanced base tech.
